Self Reliance (2024)

Written and directed by New Girl and Minx star Jake Johnson, the comedic actor also stars in the film as Tommy, a lonely guy who lives with his mom and spends his days doing the same thing - going to his boring job, watching old movies, and occasionally goin gover to his ex-girlfriend’s (Natalie Morales) but then slinking away without knocking. Then one day as he’s walking home, Andy Samberg pulls up in a limo and insists he go for a ride. Tommy decides to get in and is taken to a warehouse where he’s told that he’s been picked to partake in a dark web reality series where assassins have 30 days to try and kill him, and if they don’t, he wins a million dollars. The catch is that they can only kill him if he’s alone, so his only hope is to stay in close proximity with other people the whole time. Tommy agrees to participate, first hiring a homeless man (Biff Wiff) to stick with him before running into Anna Kendrick, who says she’s contestant on the same game, and teaming up with her to win the prize. It’s pretty original as far as meet-cutes go, and the bonus is we get to see Anna showing a healthy amount of leg in some pink short shorts. Her bouncing booty in Self Reliance will have you practicing a little self love!
