Le derrière (1999)

An uneducated slob might conclude that the literal translation of La Derrière (1999) is The Ass, but the ignorant lout would be wrong. The more accurate English rendition of this movie title is From Behind. "Same difference!" grunts dumbo. Perhaps, but with a twist. The heroine of La Derrière is a slim, young Frenchwoman whose mother has just died. Losing mama awakens the daughter's need for family ties, and she tracks down her long-lost dad. He turns out to be an older gay gentleman, so wrapped up in the life of same-sex bars and younger lovers that he would not pay attention to his daughter if she were standing muff out in front of him. But once she dresses in reverse drag and presents herself as a charming young man, all Daddy’s reticence melts away. Gays, after all, are susceptible to From Behind charms just like we straights are.
