In the distopian fantasy Le Déjeuner sur l'herbe (1959), Etienne is a scientist who has come up with a way to stem the white-hot flow of human passion. Instead of procreating the natural way, he has devised a method where life will be created through artificial insemination. Everything is going his way, until a sojourn in the countryside brings him face to face with Nénette, a beautiful young farm girl who wants to do it the old-school way but distrusts men.
