Set in New York City's Lower East Side back when it was wild and deadly in 1982, Kill the Poor (2006) tracks the progress of a schlub (David Krumholtz) whose marriage of convenience to a French stripper (Clara Bellar) lands the couple in a ratty, junkie-overrun tenement. Dramatically capturing Manhattan and its put-upon residents during its dangerous downturn in the '70s and '80s, Kill the Poor is lethally effective. Plus Clara Bellar is plenty lovely to look at.
