Will Will Smith make it to the top after falling into a financial crater? It's money and stability he's pursuing in The Pursuit of Happyness (2006), a fictionalized telling of the rough-and-tumble years in the life of motivational speaker Christopher Gardner--and, in a twist on truth and fiction, Smith's son, Jaden Christopher Syre Smith, plays his onscreen son. Daddy Smith works as an intern at the brokerage firm Dean Witter by day, living in shelters and subway bathrooms with Little Smith at night. His wife is Thandie Newton, who picks up and leaves him alone and pining for one more taste of dandy Thandie candy. Promoted as a feel-good cure for the holiday ho-hums, The Pursuit of Happyness is actually fairly glum until late in the tale. But Thandie is a candle spilling light into her every scene. She's a natural-born spiller, and you can't help but get randy at the thought of her fine Fig Newtons.
