I, a Woman (1965)

Brief Nudity

Review

Essy Persson is Siv, a nurse who needs lots of sex with tons of men. She's an exhibitionist and nymphomaniac in a time when there weren't many exhibitionists and nymphomaniacs (at least there weren’t many who openly did anything about it). So, guess what? Siv's pretty popular! She sleeps with doctors, antique dealers, sailors, tinkers, tailors, soldiers, spies--she can't even say no when a bad boy wants to play rough. Siv doesn't allow any attachments, but that's the same reason she doesn't find real love. There are no real laughs in the film, except for the fact that one of Siv's lovers looks uncannily like an old Errol Flynn and the entire film is soundtracked by some anonymous mid-sixties jangle-pop band that keeps showing up on the TV. One of the landmark art films that made nudity acceptable on American screens and allowed me to grow up to be I, Mr. Skin.
