Gentlemen's Relish (2001)

An eccentric Scottish artist transforms himself into a successful smut photographer in the devilishly funny made-for-TV movie Gentlemen’s Relish (2001). Billy Connolly stars as Kingdom Swann, a talented painter who grows dismayed that his canvases can’t make the coin they once did. Fortunately Swann’s maid, Violet (Sarah Lancashire), is in tune with shifting mores and advises her boss to convert to photography. The metamorphosis is only truly complete, however, when Swann decides to shoot nude portraits of London streetwalkers and palm them off as porn. Not unexpectedly the profits go quickly through the roof. Douglas Mackinnon’s production is a far cry from Masterpiece Theatre fare; after all, a bevy of British beauties disrobes to help with the period pizzazz.
