Clergy (2018)

In this critically acclaimed and controversial box-office blockbuster from Poland, director Wojciech Smarzowski goes for the jugular of the Polish Catholic Church with a story that is about as true to the inner workings of a corrupt and powerful organization as you can get without calling it a documentary!  In Clergy (2018), we focus on three priests who are linked together by a tragic event that occurred a year prior to when this film takes place.  One is a big city priest who is looking to eventually move to the Vatican and life out the rest of his days in the holiest of holy ways.  Another is a rural priest who is the leader of a congregation of poor rural people, who he regularly succumbs to the temptations that come to him from the surrounding poverty.  The last is the most faithful of the bunch but is also the least successful when it comes to keeping "his flock" in order, as his partitioners regularly ridicule and leave his church, despite his best efforts.  Their three stories intermingle and begin to paint the larger picture of corruption at the highest levels of Catholicism in Poland and how the church regularly puts itself ahead of the good of the god fearing for it's own gain politically, financially, and personally.  While this picture regularly touches on modern day topics that have definitely been publicized worldwide, it does so through the lens of these three flawed priests who come together to celebrate their survival, while still trying to hide their indiscretions to themselves and their frock.  We also get to see some boobies along the way, despite the heavy subject matter, and brother, what boobies!  The incomparable Joanna Kulig breaks out her amazing jugs in one amazing scene, but also shows her buns in a pillow fight with her priest lover.  You're definitely going to need to get right with god after what you do to yourself seeing Joanna Kulig on screen in this one!  Just don't go to these priests in Poland!
