Bullet Boy (2004)

Documentarian Saul Dibb tries his hand at narrative filmmaking with the relentlessly gritty and violently realistic Bullet Boy (2004). Dibb’s film explores the tough implications of gun violence through the figure of Ricky (Ashley Waters), a young black Brit who’s released from the penitentiary only to be handed a gun by some local toughs and encouraged to wade into gang activity. Dibb is unsparing in his evocation of an inner-city existence with no easy outs, but he also allows some silver lining in the storm clouds. Sexy Sharea-mounira Samuels looks incredible as she lets lucky Ricky have his way with her against the bedroom wall, although he’s pretty rusty after his stint behind bars.
