Review

While it's often difficult to pinpoint the exact moment when a star's career has officially jumped the shark, it's pretty obvious that Bio-Dome (1996) was the end of the road for Pauly Shore starring vehicles in mainstream Hollywood films. His four best known films—Encino Man (1992), Son in Law (1993), In the Army Now (1994), and Jury Duty (1995) came prior to Bio-Dome and you'd have to fast forward seven years to Pauly Shore is Dead (2003) before he saw his name above the title on a film again. Now, is Bio-Dome some secret masterpiece that critics and audiences alike slept on upon its original release over 25 years ago? No, not even close, but it's nowhere near as bad as people seem to remember, thanks in part to an inspired premise and some game supporting actors like William Atherton, Henry Gibson, and Taylor Negron. Stoners Squirrel (Shore) and Stubs (Stephen Baldwin) seem content to go through life with no ambition, leading their environmental minded girlfriends—played by Theresa Hill and Joey Lauren Adams—to dump their asses until they can get their lives together. Yadda yadda yadda, they end up taking part in a year-long experiment living inside the titular Bio-Dome, cut off from the outside world, eventually winning over the stuffy scientists and making their girls proud! There's no female nudity to be found in this PG-13 comedy, but you'll love the sight of such lovely ladies as Kylie Minogue, Dara Tomanovich, and Joey Lauren Adams walking around with no bra and sporting some pert pairs of pokie! That'll put a Bio-Dome in your jockey shorts!
