Angry Harvest (1985)

A Jewish woman on her way to the death camps falls into an intense and unusual relationship with a provincial Polish farmer in the Oscar-nominated Angry Harvest (1985). After leaping from a cattle car and escaping certain death, Agnieszka Holland’s enigmatic protagonist (Elisabeth Trissenaar) finds shelter with a simple-minded peasant (Armin Mueller-Stahl) who’s alternately kind and cruel. The two eventually wade into a thorny romantic affair, in which Trissenaar sometimes acts as a willing participant, and other times as a sexual slave. In both cases, her heaving Austrian rack is put on full display, rivaling the reveal that co-star Isa Haller manages in another scintillating scene.
