We all love a good Scream Queen, but gone are the days of Jamie Lee Curtis starring in every horror film that hits the box office. We are in a brand new generation of scream queens and they are delivering serious scares on the big screen. Meet these five new scream queens you need to know this Halloween:
5. Mikey Madison
The new Scream films delivered a brand new class of scream queens and one young lady really stood out: raven-haired Mikey Madison. Fans of the series Better Things know Mikey as the eldest daughter in that beloved comedy series, so it was delightful to watch her play a twisted character in the Scream series. With her jet-black locks and big eyes, Mikey looks like the perfect creepy cutie to deceive us all in a horror franchise.
4. Anya Taylor-Joy
I would certainly classify Anya as a modern scream queen. After delighting us all in The Witch, she has taken a lot of strange roles in thrillers. Her upcoming film The Menu promises to devolve into a violent, satirical time. Her recent films The Northman and Last Night in Soho also show off the beautiful Anya's penchant for the strange. I did hear, however, that Anya dropped out of the new Nosferatu film. I hope she isn't taking a step back from horror!
3. Morfydd Clark
Morfydd is really popping off right now thanks to the Lord of the Rings series that she is starring in on Amazon. Before this role, the redheaded Welsh woman starred in the indie horror film Saint Maud. That was quite a skintroduction to this very creepy young actress! She is going to keep the gothiness going when she plays Ophelia in an upcoming adaptation of Hamlet. See? She's embracing her dark side and I am loving it.
2. Mia Goth
With a last name like "Goth", you are sort of required to be spooky. Mia Goth lives up to her promisingly weird name and then some with her recent films X and Pearl. She plays Maxine Minx in those films and she turns us all on before she gives us all a real fright. Mia has been playing oddball roles for a few years now - and very nude ones, too - so I have no doubt that this isn't the last we will see of Mistress Goth in a spooky movie.
1. Jenna Ortega
Speaking of X and Scream, actress Jenna Ortega was in both of those films! Jenna is a doe-eyed doll from California who is already making quite a name for herself with these two roles. I have a very good feeling about Jenna's future in horror films which is why I ranked her so highly on this top five list. The lovely Latina has yet to go nude, but she sure did leave a lot to the imagination in this porno scene from X in which she showed her cleavage in her yellow bra and panties:
