We're more focused here on the film's brand new Blu-ray release containing a new cut of the film that features more nudity than the beloved theatrical cut.This "Unrated Producer's Cut" bulks up the runtime of the film by three minutes, adding more of the stuff that makes Hot Dog... The Movie great!
ErstwhileDr. Pepper spokesmancum faded music superstar turnedAmerican Werewolf in LondonDavid Naughton lends his estimable talents to the proceedings. Naughton's Dan O'Callahan leads the freewheeling Rat Pack that our hero Harkin Banks (Patrick Houser) latches on to on his journey to prove he's the greatest downhill skier in the world.He's got some fierce competition, of course, including comic relief characterSquirrel Murphy, played by Frank Koppala. Original TMNT Shredder James Saito also appears here asKendo Yamamoto, a "kamikaze" downhill skier who gleefully takes part in the so-called "Chinese Downhill" competition in the film's third act. It's culturally insensitive, to be sure, but no more so than Sixteen Candles' Long Duk Dong playing in the next cinema.
Crystal Smith plays a hotel clerk at the ski lodge who is so horned up at the sight of our hero Harkin that she chucks her entire livelihood out the window to bang him right then and there in the hotel's jacuzzi. You've really gotta love the logic of the 80s sex comedy...
There's no one in the film that holds a candle to Shannon Tweed, however. The future Mrs. Gene Simmons plays the amorous Harkin's older paramour Sylvia Fonda. Just two years removed from being crowned Playboy Playmate of the Year, Shannon stuns with tantalizing TA, which looks amazing on this new Blu-ray...
Of note to fans of the original is that this new cut of the film contains a longer sex scene between Harkin and Sunny, played by Tracy Smith. The scene now contains extra bits of nudity (and Sunny even starts to go down on him, which is not in the original cut)...
We'd be remiss if we didn't also mention the buxom Victoria Rae Walker's wet t-shirt scene at the rough and tumble local tavern...
Synapse Films' brand new Blu-ray is due on shelves February 25th in its"Unrated Producer's Cut" featuring a brand new 4K restoration produced from an original 35mm negative. It has a brand new 5.1 surround sound mix, as well as the original 2.0 theatrical mono mix. The release is also handsomely appointed with special features, including an all-new 50-minute documentary "Hot Dog: The Documentary," a new audio commentary track, and liner notes by former Mr. Skin head writer and "Teen Movie Hell" author Mike "McBeardo" McPadden.
