From time to time, I like to blog about some of my favorite boob tube shows in hopes that someone will see the light and put them out on DVD. Today, I've been thinking about the short-lived syndicated horror anthology series Freddy's Nightmares, which ran from 1988-1990. Unlike Friday the 13th: The Series, the other horror series spun off from a successful movie franchise, Freddy's Nightmares actually featured the killer from the movies, as well as the fictional town of Springwood, on the shows. Freddy Kreuger (Robert Englund) was a kind of Crypt Keeper-esque host who introduced the interlocking stories in bumper segments. The series was low budget and used unknown actors but some of those actors, like Brad Pitt, John Cameron Mitchell, and Mariska Hargitay later became big stars. And some, like Sarah Buxton and Lori Petty, went on to show skin (although not on the show itself, sadly). Still, any show set in a place called Springwood (who doesn't?) deserves my attention.
