Foreign Film Friday: Penelope Cruz in Open Your Eyes

Alejandro Amenabar - not Almodovar, don't get it twisted just because this is a Spanish director and Penelope Cruz working together - directs this film that brought us all up close and personal to the gloriously gorgeous Penelope Cruz.

Penelope Cruz was already a star in Spain. She had previously starred in Jamon Jamon and All About My Mother, getting naked and tantalizing audiences around the world.

The film tells the story of a womanizer named Cesar who hits it and quits it without ever thinking about the consequences. This comes back to bite him in a big way in this film. He hits on the beautiful Penelope Cruz which pisses off his ex played by Najwa Nimri. She retaliates by driving her car into a cement wall with Cesar in the passenger seat.

Cesar needs plastic surgery to help reconstruct his face after this accident which is definitely going to affect the effortless charm he has on women. He is determined to make Penelope Cruz fall for him which is going to be difficult now, but he has a twisted plan in place to ensure that she falls for him.

Will it work? You will have to watch the movie to find out how he woos her and if it all goes the way that he wants it to, but I will let you know that if you want to see Penelope's pair then you do.

This film was remade and retitled. You might remember Vanilla Sky? Yes, Penelope was also in that movie! She reprised her role as she became Tom Cruise's love interest with Cameron Diaz playing the angry lover. It's interesting to compare these two films because the nude scenes are different. Penelope gets a lot more naked in the original than in Cameron Crowe's 2001 remake.

The movies depart from one another, but I'm a big fan of the original. That is mostly because I think Penelope Cruz comes off as sweet and spicy in this movie in the exact right way. Open Your Eyes and check out Penelope Cruz in the flesh in this movie.
