When one is as lovely as gorgeous German glamour girl Brigitte Helm, a face can say a thousand words. Good thing, then, that the bulk of Brigitte’s cinematic career covered the silent film era! Brigitte became an instant sensation and an enduring legend when she starred as the vampy Maria in Fritz Lang’s futuristic art deco masterpiece Metropolis (1927). Sweet Brigitte went on to make nearly forty more flicks—a few of them talkies—however, when Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party took over the German movie industry, she not only quit acting, but quit her home country as well, choosing to move to Switzerland with her husband and children. Until her death in 1996, beauteous Brigitte abstained from speaking about her celluloid past, though she’ll live forever in skinfamy for her racy-for-the-time pasties in costume for Metropolis. Way to make the ’20s roar!
