They/Them (2022)

They/Them (the slash is pronounced) stars Kevin Bacon, who appeared in the original Friday The 13th, returning to his slasher-film-at-camp roots only this time he’s the one in charge. Bacon’s nefarious Owen Whistler runs a gay conversion camp, where parents send their LGBTQ children to be turned straight, except at the same time these kids are being tortured for who they are by Whistler and his staff, a masked serial killer is on the loose picking people off one by one. And like its horror genre predecessors, there’s some very sexy shenanigans before things get bloody. See Anna Lore and Monique Kim give in to their urges with some oral out on a dock, while two of the “converted” counselors (Hayley Griffith and Boone Platt) start to bone after looking at provocative pics of the new crop of campers. The actual murders may be quick and less gore-filled than other films, but the psychological damage of conversion therapy is its own kind of horror.
