A New Orleans native who trained at renowned schools such as the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, Indiana University, Belmont University, and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, Taprena followed her musical theatre dreams to New York and landed roles in a number of Broadway productions, including Sarabi in The Lion King, Shug Avery in The Color Purple, and Bessie Smith in A Night With Janis Joplin. She started appearing on the small screen in 2016, and has been seen on hit shows such as Bull, Gotham, The Blacklist, and Jessica Jones. In 2024, the babe from The Big Easy landed her biggest film role to date, in the drama Lola alongside writer, director, and star Nicola Peltz Beckham.
