Staff Picks: Slasher Films

Our Staff Picks column takes you back to a time when video stores reigned supreme and the "Staff Picks" section was the place to find out what films were worthy of one's time. Of course, our version of Staff Picks has a decidedly skintillating angle, as we suss out which films from a particular subgenre are the best to find great nudity. This week let's cover one of the best kinds of films to watch during Spooky Season: Slasher Films.

The origin of the slasher film is often credited to Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho, although the movie Peeping Tom from Michael Powell came out the very same year and was about a photographer who wanted to capture the moment before his victims, er I mean models, died. Both movies sent shockwaves throughout cinema, so much so perhaps that the slasher genre didn't really take off until the 1970s with Last House on the Left, which we discussed last week in Hippie Hotties.

Halloween

In 1978, John Carpenter gave the world his indie horror debut: Halloween. Halloween still holds up. It's fantastic. Not only did the film introduce Jamie Lee Curtis to adoring big screen fans, but we also got to enjoy P.J. Soles take off her top while Michael Meyers watches in a creepy sheet ghost costume.

In another scene, Sandy Johnson will have you gripping your johnson when you watch her - as Michael watches her - sit topless at her vanity table. While she's being vain, you'll drain yours.

Prom Night

After becoming the reigning Scream Queen, Jamie Lee Curtis followed up Halloween with this 1980 slasher flick. Jamie plays a sexy young lady whose older sister was killed in a game of hide-and-seek years prior. Now she is a teen, ready to move on from grieving her sister by going to her high school prom. That gets tricky when her classmates start disappearing one-by-one at the hands of a masked murderer.

Jamie joins Mary Beth Rubens in the locker room for a scene that shows Mary's rump, but the best scene comes later when Mary returns to the locker room for some late night nookie.

Happy Death Day

Happy Death Day is a modern slasher film that is sort of like Groundhog's Day with blood. A college student wakes up in a stranger's dorm room and winds up getting murdered at the end of her day...then she wakes up and does it all again.

She realizes that this time loop won't end until she finds her killer. Jessica Rothe stars and does a daring walk of No-Shame when she struts nude back to her dorm during one of her repeated days.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Texas Chainsaw Massacre was said to really change the slasher game with Leatherface and his brood of maniacs. Chainsaws were forever tainted by that film! The original did not have nudity in it, but the remakes and sequels have been fairly generous. Tonie Perensky used a body double named Jeanie Sullivan to show off her massive mams in the 1994 film Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation.

The Cabin in the Woods

2012's The Cabin in the Woods was a playful takedown on horror films in which a control room uses horror movie tropes to have fun with their need to sacrifice blood to Satan. A motley crew of college-aged friends wind up picking the slasher psycho stalking them in the woods trope which means that their remote getaway is about to get bloody...but not before getting booby.

Leave it to Anna Hutchison to have a super hot topless scene before meeting her gruesome death.

Friday the 13th

Sean Cunningham's Friday the 13th was the big budget slasher film that launchedJason into pop culture. Slasher movies had been predominantly indie films until this point. We all got to know Jason, the twisted young man whose tragic beginnings at Camp Crystal Lake made everyone terrified of going to summer camp ever again. Before we all wet our pants in fear, we all enjoyed watching Jeannine Taylor get wet in her sex scene.

Shredder

Shredder is a ridiculous 2002 slasher film that is sort of so-bad-it's-good. This movie takes place on an old ski lodge that a group of horny hotties go to for a weekend getaway. They soon find that they are being stalked by a mad skiier with an axe. Whoops!

The snow gets drenched with blood, but not before Holly Towne lets a lucky beau go to town on her breasts.
