Our Staff Picks column takes you back to a time when video stores reigned supreme and the "Staff Picks" section was the place to find out what films were worthy of one's time. Of course, our version of Staff Picks has a decidedly skintillating angle, as we suss out which films from a particular subgenre are the best to find great nudity. This week let's cover one a skinteresting genre: 90s smut!
What is 90s smut? It's not porn, not exactly softcore, but also kind of porny. These movies have pornier vibes (and scenes) than your regular film and they might include plots that revolve a little bit around sex. I classify these as "smut" because I think they are more erotic and less mainstream, than the 90s erotic thrillers that were also being released at this time.
Angelfist
Cirio Santiago directed this flick that combines two things that I love: sexy women and martial arts. Do I have your attention? I thought so! Catya Sassoon - yes, she is the daughter of Vidal - stars as a police officer and martial artist who goes to the Phillippines to do a private investigation where she will track down her sister's killer. She goes undercover in a kickboxing rign where she meets otherhot, fit, female kickboxers. Okay...this sounds hot.
Melissa Anne Moore also stars and she shows her skincredible body in the shower. She and Catya even have a gorup shower scene together where the two of them show off their massive mams, tiny waists, and athletic thighs. The girls shower together, they fight off jerks, and they do it all basically topless. Angelfist is a blessing.
Possessed by the Night
Fred Ray directed this 1997 erotic thriller that is filled with smut. A romantic author is struggling with his latest book, so he goes down to Chinatown for inspiration. He buys a creature in a jar with one eye to help his writer's block. What? Yes, you read that right. It doesn't exactly help him, but it does seem to cause all of the women around him to take off their clothes for him.
Everyone from his wife played by Sandahl Bergman and his secretary played by Shannon Tweed all go topless. Shannon uses a body double in some scenes and the body double deserves some praise because her pair is perfect. The creature does end up possessing the secretary and turns her into a nymphomaniac. She even takes a gun and pleasures herself with it. You will be obsessed with this scene from Possessed!
Beach Babes from Beyond
This 1993 film says it all in the title: space babes are here and they are hanging out in bikinis on the beach. Three babes are "teens" from outer space who borrow their friend's parents' spaceship. The parents are weirdly played by Don Swayze and Jackie Stallone - relatives of other more famous actors.
Anyway, let's go back to talking about the sexy women in this film that is literally filled to the booby brim with sexy women. The babes crash their spaceship on Earth and wind up having a wild, fun time. They say that Earth girls are easy, but these space babes are wild. They also bring out the wild sides of Earth girls they meet like Nikki Fritz.
Dance with Death
Directed by Charles Moore, Dance with Death follows a reporter who goes undercover in his investigation of a serial killer. He goes to a strip club to see if he can find the killer, but he winds up finding hot babes! Barbara Alyn Woods dances topless while wearing a long necklace. Her topless tits will have you wanting to give her a pearl necklace.
Catya Sassoon is in this movie, too! She knows what kind of movie she likes to star in and it is a film that features fun bags. Catya also dances up a storm and does it topless. Her figure is fine as hell in her smoking hot striptease!
Doppelganger: The Evil Within
The Doppelganger movies are pretty smutty and they are very hot. The third film is worth watching because Drew Barrymore goes nude twice. She plays the central character who moves to LA to get away from the death of her mom back in New York. Her mom was murdered and she begins to fear that she is being stalked by her mother's murderer.
