Sometimes it takes some serious heartache to pump out the subject for your next documentary and that is 100% the case for the ever hilarious and quirky Canadian comedian Steve Markle in this feature about love failed.  Steve brought us the genius 2004 documentary Camp Hollywood and it only took 16 years for a follow-up from him, which brings us to Shoot to Marry (2020).  To setup where Steve is coming from, we need to understand his love life...  When he proposes to his longtime girlfriend, she initially says yes, but it slowly comes out that she doesn't want to marry him at all and they subsequently end things on bad terms...  We've all been there before in one way, shape, or form with a breakup.  The normal guys among us try to pick up the pieces, gain some weight, lose some weight, drink too much, drunk dial our exes, go slightly crazy, then fall in love again.  Not Steve, he instead decides to shoot a documentary around finding a special someone and maybe figure out why things didn't work out the last time, all in front of a lens.  Along the way, he does do some similar things like reconnecting with his first love from grade school, talking to old acquaintances who he THOUGHT about asking out but didn't have the guts at the time, and then straight up just putting out an ad to interview women about themselves and their love lives.  He ends up in some awkward conversations, covered in body paint with the topless Heidi Lee, crushing on his friend Kate Kelton, and fully naked himself in a sex club in Toronto.  All in all, poor Steve is just like every guy out there, looking for love and getting a lot of near misses along the way.
