In L’Oeil écarlate (1993), a transfixing whodunit from director Dominique Roulet, a French investigator discovers the body of a wealthy playboy near an abandoned set of railroad tracks. Detective René Montijoux (Jean-Louis Trintignant) initially suspects suicide, but with no motive apparent, he wonders if it isn’t a case of foul play. Montijoux begins tailing suspects, and wouldn’t you know it, he soon gets a sweet bit of tail himself. Delphine Zentout stars as a person-of-interest who gets a lot more interesting when she drops her top for the cop’s roving camera.
