A new cut of the controversial 1979 art drama Caligula is being released in the UK next week, which will be followed by a 4K disc release later this year. As the movie's scandalous tale goes, Penthouse Magazine mogul Bob Guccione tapped writer Gore Vidal and Italian filmmaker Tinto Brass to bring the epic story of the sex-crazed Roman emperor to life. He then gifted them with twice the budget of Star Wars, luring esteemed British actors Peter O’Toole, John Gielgud, and more to round out a cast led by A Clockwork Orange star Malcolm McDowell in the title role.

But then Guccione supposedly scrapped most of the work they’d done in favor of hardcore, pornographic scenes he filmed himself on the sly, leaving a finished product that barely resembled the original script and was mercilessly panned by critics.

Besides being a box office bomb, Caligula is also known for being one of the places you can see a young, virile Helen Mirren nude, including one scene where she and Malcolm have a tasty three-way with Teresa Ann Savoy.

The upcoming ultimate cut restores the original narrative using enhanced sound, FX, and new versions of scenes cobbled together from 90+ hours of footage that reportedly contains new nudity from our favorite hottie Helen - and possibly more scenes of Teresa and other nudies as well, such as Anneka Di Lorenzo and Lori Wagner, who famously went to town on each other during a real lesbian sex scene. Seriously, watch at your own risk because this scene is sapphic and SPICY!
