Brenda Forever (2013)

No Nudity

Review

Sometimes a premise for a great show comes along, signs on an even better cast all coming off hot streaks, and even brings on a genius director for the very first Pilot episode and it still doesn't get picked up for a series run...  Brenda Forever is a perfect example of one of those shows and we are stuck with only a pilot episode of a show that seemingly could have been a long lasting sitcom. The series follows two intertwining timelines of an outgoing redhead, Brenda (Ellie Kemper), and the story would have bounced between modern day Brenda and her struggles with her love-life and career as well as Brenda as an awkward yet confident 13 year old trying to kick of her teenage years the right way by going to make-out parties and hanging out with her best friend.  The pilot kicks off with Brenda struggling with some sexual feelings towards the xylophone player in the orchestra she runs as the conductor.  After discussing her feelings with her best friend, she decides that the best course of action is to propose a threesome between her current boyfriend (Ken Marino) and her xylophone dream guy (James Lesure), to which her boyfriend is surprisingly on board with!  This series started out with Ellie Kemper coming off of The Office finale and Bridesmaids (2011), Ken Marino still doing Burning Love, and David Wain as the director... It's a shocker that this series didn't go farther than one episode, especially considering that Ellie gets down to just a bra for her planned threesome and she is WAY more stacked that you'd ever anticipate when you see her in just her pink bra!  C'est la vie...  Another good idea shuffled off the network schedule board.
