If you’ve seen any of the “Fifty Shades” movies, did you find yourself watching the sex scenes and thinking “If I had been the director, that would have been much hotter”?
It doesn’t matter if you’ve never taken a single course in filmmaking, or that you might think Akira Kurosawa is a kind of sushi roll, each of us has had the experience of watching a movie and thinking of ways certain parts of it could have been done better, or at least done differently, to make it more exciting, more frightening – or in the case of a sex scene, way hotter.
The reason I referenced Fifty Shades at the start of this post isn’t because I think the movie has especially lame sex scenes, it’s because I recently stumbled across a bondage site which is giving its members the opportunity to put themselves in the director’s chair – all without ever leaving their own chair.
Wasteland.com, one of the web’s oldest and longest-running porn sites of any kind (launched in 1994!) has a promotion going on in which members of the site are entered in a drawing, the winner of which gets to call the shots in an upcoming scene being filmed for the site. The contest is open to all Wasteland members and included as part of their membership, so there’s no added entry fee.
Once the winner has been determined, Wasteland’s crew schedules a shoot at a time which is convenient to the winner, then pipes the winner in via Skype to direct the action during the shoot.
So, if you’ve ever wanted to direct porn – or direct a BDSM porno, in particular – this is your chance to show the world your dirty directorial chops. If you’re feeling artsy and lighthearted, you can make like you’re Steven Shainberg directing James Spader and Maggie Gyllenhaal in Secretary. Or if you’re more into porn with a harder edge, as a member of the site, you can always draw inspiration from some of the other scenes available on Wasteland before your big day behind the camera.
