And That Missing Thing... Female Masturbation

If your high school sex ed class was anything like mine, it was nothing more than an uncomfortable teacher reading from a book, never making eye contact with the students, and then watching a video for the rest of class. I highly doubt sex ed has gotten any better in recent years. But there are some out there, like Shailene Woodley, who like sex ed to cover everything, including female masturbation.

After careful consideration (for about 3 seconds) I have come to the conclusion that Shailene Woodley is correct, female masturbation needs to be taught in sex ed classes.

...“As a young woman you don’t learn how to pleasure yourself, you don’t learn what an orgasm should be, you don’t learn that you should have feelings of satisfaction. I’ve always had a dream of making a book called There’s No Right Way to Masturbate. If masturbation were taught in school, I wonder how [many] fewer people would get herpes aged 16, or pregnant at 14?”...

I am firm (pun intended) in my belief that sex for pleasure, masturbation, and almost everything else that a teenager can find on the internet should be taught, or at least mentioned, in sex ed. I think we should all take a minute and applaud Shailene Woodley for speaking up on a topic she is passionate about. Hopefully she will be able to get a conversation started about the lack of information in most, if not all, sex ed classrooms.

And yes, I totally wanted to make a bunch of jokes about Shailene Woodley and masturbation, but after going back and forth, back and forth, back and forth on this hard issue, I reached a conclusion and decided to let it slide.
