Showtime Readies a Spin-off To the Lesbo Lickfest The L Word Featuring Leisha Hailey

Back in July nudity-friendly network Showtime announced that there was a sequel to their Sapphic-sisters-who-like-to-scissor drama The L Word in the works, but the net wouldn't divulge which character would live on.

Today word leaked that Leisha Hailey would be the new show's central character. Which is good news for Mr. Skin, because Hailey isn't opposed to showing off her hairy!

Rueters reported last month:

Showtime is working on a spinoff to its lesbian drama "The L Word," which will kick off its sixth and final season early next year.

Ilene Chaiken, the creator of the edgy series, is in the early stages of developing the spinoff, which will star one of the "L Word" actresses, said Robert Greenblatt, Showtime's president of entertainment.

The identity of the chosen actress has not yet been revealed to the cast, Greenblatt said during the Television Critics Assn. press tour at the Beverly Hilton on Friday.

Pressed for more details, he said only: "We're still forming it. I'm sure I have a million e-mails already from loyal viewers about it, but we're still in the process of figuring it out."

"The L Word," meanwhile, will end its run with an open-ended story line that will continue online. Should the spinoff get a series pickup, the story line will continue in the as-yet-untitled project, Greenblatt said.

And today Variety added a few more details:

Showtime is hoping to extend the life of its "L Word" franchise with a spinoff starring Leisha Hailey.

Thesp has signed on to shoot a pilot presentation for the pay cabler.

Ilene Chaiken, creator and exec producer of "The L Word," will write and produce the pilot. Shooting is skedded for December.

It sounds like Showtime will continue to give gash-gnashing girls time to show for years to come!
