If you haven't heard the news, Gypsy Rose Blanchard was released was prison after serving eight years out of a ten-year sentence. If you don't know who she is or what I am talking about, then let me remind you that her story was recreated by Hulu a few years ago with Joey King playing the convicted murderess - and she made her nude debut in the role! As I was saying, Gypsy Rose was in prison for murder. The story, however, is complicated which is why some people are celebrating her release. The young woman was emotionally and physically abused by her mother who had Munchausen's By Proxy and profited over pretending that her daughter Gypsy was a sick child with various cancers and illnesses.
Gypsy herself didn't know that she wasn't sick for years - or how old she was. She was confined to a wheelchair despite being able to walk, hooked up to feeding tubes, and taking medicines that she did not need to be taking.
A sheltered childhood like that tends to make children rebel when they get older and Gypsy was no different - the problem was that her controlling environment didn't allow her to rebel in a "typical" way. Instead, she met an online boyfriend and the two of them planned to kill Gypsy's mom so that she could be free.
They were pretty much immediately caught and Gypsy shocked many who knew her by walking into a courtroom in shackles. It wasn't the handcuffs or the jumpsuit that shocked people - it was the walking. That was the clearest sign everyone needed to know that it had all been a rouse.
The young lady was sentenced to prison which was likely a huge shock to her system. She went from being controlled by her mother to being controlled by the state. She has served her time and hopefully reflected a lot on what she did - and on her entire life. In a sense, she has NEVER been free. The 32-year-old is essentially free for the first time in her entire life.
We shall see what happens to her next. It appears that she is going to do some interviews and release a book. In her own words, the book won't rehash what happened. It will instead talk about her reflections and her time in prison. That sounds promising to me!
Does that mean we will eventually get a follow-up to The Act with Joey King engaging in some prison relationships? I may be writing some fan fiction here, but I think it sounds promising. Gypsy Rose, let's make it happen. I'm willing to go into business with you to get more Joey King nude scenes - er, I mean, to have the lovely actress continue to tell your life story.
