From Bratgirl to Bye Bye Birdie

Three quarters Cherokee and one quarter Irish, porn star Hyapatia Lee lit up blue screens around the world from 1983 to 1996, starring in hardcore porn titles, most of them for Vivid, like Landlady, Naughty Girls Need Love Too, Women Who Love Girls, and Young Like It Hot.

Hyapatia retired from the business in 1996, “because of AIDS and companies no longer being willing to work with condoms,” according to a recent interview on Porn Stars: Where Are They Now?

Now Hyapatia has returned to performing in an Indianapolis production of Bye Bye Birdie, not to be confused with the 1994 porn flick Bi Bi Birdie with Marc Andrews, Matt Windsor and Sharon Kane.

But before she started stripping at age 19, Hyapatia had long been involved with theater.

“In my teenage years I was a theater nut,” recalls Hyapatia, “I did 72 different plays and musicals in 3 years. I was always in two or three things at once. I did all my acting in local community theater and some in my high school.”

With Hyapatia in the play, now audiences may finally be in a position to get over the 1982 death of Paul Lynde, whose rendition of “Kids” in his 1976 Halloween special with KISS and Wilhelmina W. Witchiepoo defined the musical for a generation.
