Darkness is spreading in this new teaser for next week's third episode of the final season of Game of Thrones, and I mean that literally. It's virtually impossible to see what's happening in this trailer without turning up the brightness on your monitor to full blast. It's one thing to be metaphorically dark, but another to take it to a literal extreme.

Of course this is all part of the Game of Thrones aesthetic, which has been literal and metaphorical darkness from the very beginning. It makes sense in terms of looking like what's come before, but I'm gonna need some torches or something here fellas, I can't make head or tail of what's happening here. Jon and Dany were chatting for a bit and then Brienne came out of nowhere and then I can't tell what's happening again.

Next week's episode will also be the first time the show ventures over the one hour mark this season, as its scheduled run time is listed at 82 minutes. With only four episodes to go, it's good to know that they're giving us the equivalent—or close to it—of a full season with these extended running times.

The Game of Thrones resumes next Sunday.
