Don't you hate it when you're trying to enjoy a movie and some inconsiderate asshole refuses to put his (or her) phone away? Us too. But do you hate it enough to stab the offending texter in the neck with a pencil-- and then screw the gaping wound in her neck?
That's the message posited by an "indent" (that's British for "bump") produced for the UK horror festival FrightFest 2012, where that exact scenario plays out as a warning for patrons to turn off their phones before the movie starts.
Apparently FrightFest wanted to take it up a notch from the Alamo Drafthouse's famous "no talking" PSAs, which recruit celebrities to give the message and even spun an ejected patron's irate voice mail into a viral video. But some festival-goers say the spot went too far, causing a firestorm of controversy (or as producers like to call it, free publicity) as horrified patrons called it "misogynist," "disgusting", and just plain "excessive." We think they just didn't get the joke: the spot was only played once-- at a midnight screening of the upcoming Maniac remake!
