The Luminaries (2021) is a UK/New Zealand co-produced miniseries based on Eleanor Catton's Man Booker Prize winning novel of the same name starring the always luminous Eva Green! Set during the 1860s gold rush that swept across the western coast of New Zealand, the series follows the exploits of twelve different protagonists, whose paths cross in new and interesting ways throughout the course of the series. Catton herself wrote the show's script and decided to radically reimagine the structure and characters, in order to help diversify an decidedly non-diverse time in the world's history. Bono's daughter Eve Hewson stars as Anna Wetherell, a fortune seeker in 1865 who teams up with a fellow traveler and fortune seeker named Emery (Yesterday's Hamish Patel) to conquer this untamed landscape. Anna finds lodgings in the home of American fortune teller Lydia (Eva Green) while Emery takes up residence with a prospector named Carver (Marton Csokas) and though their stories begin to diverge, they make a pledge to always find their way back to one another. That proves easier said than done, of course, as violent interests interfere, sending Emery on the run and Anna increasingly worried that she may never see him again. Of course, this is all because—as that great prophet Huey Lewis taught us—the power of love is a curios thing. It's also curious that Eva Green doesn't doff her duds in this series, though she does give great cleavage in her natural element as a fortune teller. Eve Hewson also gives a hint of the ol' cleave, but it'll definitely leave you wanting more!
