HBO's Boardwalk Empire begins its second season tonight at 9/8 Central, and in case you're not up to speed on Martin Scorcese's Prohibition-era gangster drama, we've complied a hand-y guide that tells you everything you'll need to know going in to season 2. Kelly MacDonald received an Emmy nomination for her performance as abused immigrant housewife turned high-society concubine MargaretSchroeder. She used a body double for her Boardwalk nude scene, but shows her burning bush for real in Trainspotting (1996), nude on Blu-ray.
By far the nudest member of the cast is Paz de la Huerta, who plays dizzy flapper girl Lucy Danziger. Booted from the bed of Atlantic City crime boss Nucky Thompson (Steve Buscemi) as he takes Margaret as his mistress, Lucy ended the season on a campaign of self-destruction, like this ill-advised tryst with ATF agent Nelson Van Alden (Michael Shannon).
Aleksa Palladino plays Angela Darmody, the common-law wife of Jimmy Darmody (Michael Pitt), Nucky's right hand man. Angela dreams of escaping the domestic life and becoming a painter, a bohemian dream she almost achieves with the help of her lesbian lover Mary (Lisa Joyce).
Gretchen Mol makes a welcome return to skinema as Gillian, a showgirl who many years ago entrusted her son JImmy Darmody to the care of Nucky, with whom she has a long and complicated history.
