In a fascinating Hollywood Reporter interview from 2019 that I unearthed - AKA I had never seen it until this week - the topic of nudity came up during a roundtable discussion with funny female actresses and creators. The panel included Jane Fonda, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Regina Hall, Maya Rudolph, Alex Borstein, and Tiffany Haddish. That's a hot group of funny ladies! They all had very interesting ideas about nudity and I was thrilled to hear that Natasha Lyonne from Russian Doll regrets not doing more of it.
Natasha showed her ass in Orange is the New Black when she was the tough-talking lesbian prisoner who ate out nearly every female character in the cast. We saw her ass in that, but shockingly that was it. I sort of forgot that that was the case until Natasha talked about it in this roundtable discussion. If you thought you saw her boobs, you were wrong. That was a body double!
Natasha complimented Jane's early nudity and said that she wished she had gone nude when she was younger and "the boobs were higher". Hey, I don't think it's too late! She can go nude any time!
This was interesting, too. Phoebe Waller-Bridge talks about not going nude but giving nude illusions. Maya Rudolph is shocked to hear that, thinking that she did indeed see Phoebe's breasts. Phoebe reminded her that she didn't. Even in Crashing, any scene in which it feels like Phoebe went nude was actually strategically covered up. Fascinating!
