Hold Onto Your Butts: Masters of Sex Has Been Canceled

It's already bad enough when one of TV's greatest shows decides to stop making seasons, but to be denied the right to cherish the last episode to the fullest is a special kind of pain. It's the pain we all feel today, now that we know Showtime has decided to discontinue Masters of Sex after the conclusion ofseason four. As we plunge into the cold, cruel winter, I can not warm my cockles (see what I did there?) knowing that on the other side is another season of William Masters and Virginia Johnson boning away for science. As they say in Westeros, the night is dark and full of terrors.

There is good news in this sadness, though - I've read the book the series is based on (about the real-life Masters and Johnson), and I can tell you that the season four wedding finale between the pair (sorry, spoilers) is really the best ending we're going to get. After 20 of marriage, the pair divorced in 1993. But hey - I'm sure those years included quite a bit of great sex.

Our greatest tragedy, of course, is that the best place to see Lizzy Caplan naked on TV is no more. I will cherish the footage available on Mr. Skin moving forward, and hope that she is cast in an equally sex-focused show ASAP.
