Welcome to my new short series called Hippie Hotties where I plan to talk about a hippie-era movie that stretched the limits of free love and sex by showing off some sexy nudes on the big screen. This era of experimentation led to some pretty far-out films, so let's take a look!
Are you looking for a raunchy, low-budget comedy from the 1960s in which a buttoned-up middle-aged man explores his sexuality for the very first time? Then the Harry Kerwin comedy My Third Wife George is for you!
William Kerwin, Harry's brother, plays Ralph Higbee - the ORIGINAL 40-year-old virgin. Seriously, he is a 40-year-old virgin who lives at home with his mom and has been too busy taking care of his ailing mother to worry about finally popping his cherry. Once the old lady dies, he is free to finally explore himself. Luckily, it's not too late! He picks up three chicks - no easy feat for anyone, especially a guy who has never been sexually active before - who convince him to really let loose by taking LSD. He trips on acid and bangs these three hippie babes for the first time! Now that's a skincredible virginity experience.
He really wants a companion, however, so he marries a young woman named Josephine. Josephine is not a good girl, however. She has a STRONG sex drive and Ralph just can't keep up. He discovers that she is getting lovin' on the side from another man and two other female lovers. So Ralph leaves her and marries Amanda, but she tries to scam him out of his money. So he moves on and marries a third time! However, by this point Ralph is jaded and he winds up cheating on her for no real reason. When she finds out? It's hell on earth!
It's a pretty funny, wild ride that introduces us to five naked actresses who bare their breasts and panties in black-and-white. Lucky Ralph! He doesn't just have sex with the hippies and his wives. He also plays around with the maid played by Regina Koo. You'll find yourself cooing over her skintastic scene.
This vintage sexploitation comedy is very of its genre. What makes it a "hippie movie" is the introduction of the three hippie girls and acid, all of which free the sheltered virgin enough for him to explore his sexuality. That's what makes this pretty standard kink film a hippie marker of the 60s. It uses the hippie lifestyle and psychedelic drugs as a device to get our character from A to B. Like most other movies in this genre, it didn't enjoy critical success of any kind. It was made for the sole purpose of entertaining and making people horny and it certainly did that. I personally like a movie that uses hippiedom for good without admonishing the lifestyle completely. So often the films that show the dark sides of hippiedom feel like they were made by the older generation who simply didn't understand. This film instead uses what hippies believe in - hot babes, bare boobs, group sex, and LSD - and uses them for good to open up Ralph Higbee's inner desires. I suspect that that was the experience - or the fantasy - of many straight-laced people of this era.
