Legendary Swedish sex symbol Christina Lindberg spent much of her career playing doe-eyed innocents on the quivering, moist cusp of sexual awakening. And that's totally awesome. But the role she's best known for, Frigga in 1974's Thriller: a Cruel Picture.If you like your grindhouse flicks, then Thriller is absolutely essential viewing.
Released in the US as They Call Her One-Eye, Thriller takes place in a relentlessly downbeat, nihilistic world where human kindness is non-existent and violent revenge is the only path to redemption. Frigga (Lindberg) starts out as an innocent country girl, but when a man offers her a ride, she unwittingly enters a dark world where she and other girls are shot full of heroin and sent to work in a brothel to support their newfound drug habits. After her eye is gouged out for disobedience, our used-and-abused heroine teaches herself martial arts, shooting, and driving so she can finally teach the a-holes who kidnapped her a lesson.
In his book Swedish Sensationsfilms, author Daniel Ekeroth reveals that a HUGE life insurance policy was taken out on Christina at the beginning of production. The reason? She did all of her own stunts, including gunfights that used live ammunition. Christina also says that she kept the famous eyepatch on all throughout training and filming, so she could get used to whupping ass with inhibited depth perception.
Famously, some hardcore inserts were also added to the brothel scenes, much to the chagrin of Ms. Lindberg, who always resisted the pressure to do hardcore sex scenes in her movies. Spankfully, that inhibition doesn't apply to taking off her clothes, which she does most thrillingly in between all those body double shots:
