Biography

African actress Cheryl Isheja had only appeared in a small role in Small Country: An African Childhood (2020) and the short film Break Ground (2021) before she landed the lead in Saul Williams and Anisia Uzeyman’s vivid Afrofuturist musical Neptune Frost. A sci-fi tale of love and anti-colonialism, it stars Cheryl as the titular intersex runaway who goes on to front a hacker collective with a coltan miner (a metallic ore used in phones and laptops) named Matalusa.
