Cap Canaille (1983) is a complicated thriller featuring murder, intrigue, and the vagaries of the real-estate market in southern France. It appears that the French mob is burning down forests to pave the way for development. Paula, the heroine, is caught in the middle, with a brother representing the real-estate side and a lover representing the underworld. In between the mayhem we get several discreet, though very nice, shots of Juliet Berto’s yams and ham hock.
