Wild, Wild Women

No Nudity

Review

While the title sounds like a bikini prick-tease travel show on the E! channel, it was actually a 1969 BBC sitcom. Not quite as wild as the title suggested, this comedy series featured the workers in a Victorian milliners--more commonly known as a sweatshop. Paul Whitsun-Jones starred as the sweatshop overseer, Mr. Harcourt, with busty Barbara Windsor and Pat Coombs playing Millie and Daisy, two girls under his charge. Some of the other girls were played by Jessie Robbins, Daphne Heard and Toni Palmer. The Wild, Wild Women series originated as a Comedy Playhouse production that aired the previous year. While the title may seem incongruent with the subject matter, it’s better than the previous working title, Sew Those Inseams Faster, Bitches! Those women may have been wild but not wild enough to warrant a second season. As for plump-podded blonde Barbara Windsor, she popped up nude in Not Now Darling and Carry on Dick--though in that latter film, she didn’t hear the “on” part!
