Director Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s bizarre film-within-a-film Beware of a Holy Whore (1971) begins with a cast and crew sitting around without a script or a director. Things don’t get any better when the missing elements arrive, either. This artsy endeavor now plays more like a network reality show, but it still remains sickly entertaining. And even the most baffled viewer will be jolted back into the non-plot via Hanna Schygulla’s amazing gully-gullys.
