Wanda

Wanda (1970)

Brief Nudity

Review

Wanda (1970) is a drama about coal mining  in Pennsylvania, but really it’s a poetic defense of the female backside. An ass in motion may be God’s greatest expression. Look into this marvel of engineering and poetry and we dare you not to praise His glory. Take for example, its star, writer and director, Barbara Loden, who here is seen illustrating our point much better than our words ever could. She is seen lifting her naked body from bed, our view is blessedly from behind, so our first sight is the white and smooth meat of her seat, with its crack smiling at its center, the flaw in an otherwise perfect diamond. As she rises, so does the lacy black panties she’s pulling up her shapely legs. They pause briefly at the bottom of her fleshy cheeks, which snag the fabric in a warm hug, before letting go to pull the over the round mound. And there, in a fluid motion, have we come to our conclusion. It’s a messy argument, but we stand by it.
