A schoolteacher's attempt to get the hell out of the outback turns into a hellish test of survival in Wake in Fright (1971). John Grant (Gary Bond) is a schoolteacher in the Australian outback who hates only one thing more than teaching...and that's the outback. So while he arrives in the hard-drinking town of Bundanyabba intending to only stay one night before flying to Sydney, after losing all his money in a game of chance one night turns to five turns to a trip hunting kangaroos turns into total annihilation of John's dignity and sense of self. Yikes! Wake in Fright is as harsh and unforgiving as the Aussie landscape itself, so when Sylvia Kay unbuttons her dress as the town bicycle, it's a sight for sore eyes. Wake in Fright will put your snake upright!
