Verschwende deine Jugend (2003), Benjamin Quabeck’s second directorial effort after Nichts bereuen (2001), is set in the early 1980s and centers on the nineteen-year-old bank clerk and part-time band manager Harry Pritzel (Tom Schilling), who dreams of making major stars out of his only clients, the hopelessly untalented band Apollo Schwabing (Jessica Schwarz, Robert Stadlober, and Marlon Kittel). In order to achieve this he sets out to organize a big concert during which they are supposed to play as a supporting act for the wildly popular pioneers of the New German Wave, DAF. He rents a circus tent, prints posters, and hires other bands. Aside from regularly pissing off his new girlfriend Lena (Nadja Bobyleva), Harry still has one major problem: DAF doesn’t have a clue about the concert.
