Review

The daring and controversial Indian film Unfreedom (2014) explores what it means when a society is repressed politically, religiously, and most important, sexually. Interweaving two stories to illustrate its point, the film paints a powerful portrait of the importance of freedom in all things. In America, a Muslim extremist (Bhanu Uday) attempts to illustrate the dangers preached by a pacifist Muslim scholar (Victor Banjeree) through whatever means he deems necessary. Meanwhile in New Delhi, a woman named Leela (Preeti Gupta) has already rejected ten attempts by her father to marry her off. She flees to follow her own heart, which tells her that she should be with a sensual painter (Bhavani Lee), despite the strict rules against women being in relationships with other women. The film is jam packed with nudity and scenes of a sexual nature, making it one of our favorite kind of controversial films. The film goes right on ahead and opens up with Bhavani Lee fully nude and painting, letting you know right off the bat what you're in for! Bhavani and Preeti Gupta later consummate their relationship in a gorgeously shot tableau set outdoors, with both ladies baring their boobs and butts! Things take a turn for the very serious later in the film, but even when it gets rough, there's still plenty of skin from both ladies to carry you through the rough patches! That's the best kind of freedom imaginable!
