Review

Years before Harold Ramis and Bill Murray teamed up for Ghostbusters (1984) and Groundhog Day (1993), they kicked off their comedy connection with the well regarded military comedy Stripes (1981). Lovable loser John Winger (Murray) realizes his life is a mess, so him and his buddy Russell (Ramis) decide to join the Army. John finds out that the Army is no fun and wants to bail, but Russell won't let him quit since the whole thing was John's idea. Besides, on top of the fact that staying is the patriotic thing to do, the two soldier boys are also spending all sorts of time on top of two sexy military policewomen (Sean Young and P.J. Soles). No point in going AWOL when you can go balls deep! Maintaining their sense of humor throughout basic training, the whole crew graduates, and end up being sent to Italy. But when a visit to West Germany goes wrong, our slacker squad has to earn their stripes with some real fighting against Soviet forces. P.J. Soles is stellar as Murray's girl Stella, especially in the extended edition, which includes a previously unseen sequence featuring P.J.'s nay-nays and even her landing strip(e). That'll have your little soldier standing at attention! Roberta Leighton's rack is on display as well, but only briefly. Still, seeing those A-plus A bombs will have you looking to enlist! But everyone's favorite scene is probably when John Candy mudwrestles two gorgeous bikini babes, played by Dawn Clark and Sue Bowser, who will have you saying wowser. Lucky John, getting to grapple with all that eye candy! To all the lovely ladies who took off their tops in Stripes, Mr. Skin says thank you for your service!
