Let’s have a little compassion for the crazy woman. Comedians, love-advice columnists, and porno directors are all quick to deride the "psycho bitch" as a dangerous and unbalanced menace best to be avoided as a love object. The aggressively conflicted heroine of The Witch Who Came from the Sea (1976) might on the surface appear to be an attractive but edgy bartender who relieves stress by taking a razor-sharp blade and slashing to shreds the private parts of males whom she has somehow deemed deserving of this fate. But look back at the anguish of a childhood trauma borne of abuse and terror. Naturally she has taken to the knife. But there is hope for this so-called witch. She just hasn’t met the right guy yet.
