The Weird Al Show

No Nudity

Review

Weird Al Yankovic, who built a career on doing cheesy yet funny parodies of pop songs, has not fared quite so well in the feature film or TV scene. Although his early movie UHF still enjoys cult status, The Weird Al Show dropped in and out of the airwaves faster than his average music video parody. Primarily geared as a smart kid’s show along the lines of Pee Wee’s Playhouse, the show took place in a split-level cave twenty miles below the earth’s surface inhabited by Al and his pet, Harvey the Wonder Hamster. The show frequently parodied other kid’s shows, like Bill Nye the Science Guy, and poked fun at the movies as well with skits such as the disaster-movie spoof 80 Percent Chance of Rain. Though usually met with praise, the show was a victim of shoddy scheduling and little-to-no promotion, and Weird Al’s magical cave studio was quickly sealed up for good. Speaking of sealed up, co-star Paula Jai Parker has kept her big brown bazookas under wraps for far too long, although she did get our hopes up briefly in Woo and Sprung.
