The Watermelon Woman (1996)

Cheryl Dunye shows off her acting, writing, directing, and editing chops in the romantic dramedy The Watermelon Woman (1996). She also broke down barriers since the R rated flick is considered a landmark in New Queer Cinema. In fact, it was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress. Not bad for someone’s first movie! In it, Cheryl plays a bald, black, and beautiful lesbian who works at a video store in Philadelphia. But the aspiring filmmaker wants to shoot a documentary on a Black character actress who is simply credited as “the Watermelon Woman” in the 1930s. While Dunye delves deeper into the woman’s past, she learns that the older African-American actress enjoyed a lesbian (and interracial) relationship with a famous female director who was white. Considering the fact that history repeats itself, Cheryl begins to have an affair with her white gal pal Diana (Guinevere Turner). As such, we are treated to views of Cheryl’s ebony boobs and nude booty as she gets Sapphically graphic with her lover in bed! Obviously, the same can be said of Ms. Turner who will turn you on when she shows off her pale rump and rack while in the sack with Ms. Dunye. If that’s not erotic enough, we get to see a touch of Lady Guinevere’s muff! Who cares about Camelot when you’re about to Cum-a-lot? As the two women come to grips with their lesbian destiny, you’ll be coming to your own grip too!
