Before Jack Nicholson, Dennis Hopper and Peter Fonda were riding motorcycles across the country in what would become the defining movie of the hippy movement, the trio were teaming in the lesser known druggie flick The Trip (1967). Written by Nicholson and directed by Roger Corman, this one's set in sweaty bungalows along the boulevards of hipster 1960s Los Angeles, where Paul Groves (Peter Fonda) is looking for something to get his mind off the wife who keeps cheating on him (Susan Strasberg). His wild child buddy John (Bruce Dern) thinks he knows what will do the trick: massive amounts of mind altering drugs! Especially LSD! But when the normally pretty square Paul gives in and takes the Lysergic acid diethylamide, he freaks out and starts running through the streets of LA. Eventually he runs into Max (Dennis Hopper) who introduces him to Glenn (Salli Sachse), who introduces him to the joys of drug aided sex. It's never a bad trip when you end up in bed with a baddie! And that's pretty much it. Eventually the drugs wear off and Paul has to decide what the drug fueled night of fun taught him about himself and what he should be doing with his life. It's a bit trippy to see so many young stars who would go on to become A-listers in this largely forgotten flick. But what's even trippier is the weird nudity! Susan Strasberg shows her ass as she strips down for some kaleidoscope lens filmed fornication that'll have you dizzily trying to track that derriere. And if that's not weird enough, get a look at Joyce Mandel's mams covered in psychedelic paint as a topless go-go dancer. Don't trip, you know those titties and ass are still amazing!
